Dear Client,
That thing about altering a person’s brand loyalty is bullshit. That’s right, I said it. Sorry to crush all your hopes. If the BDA’s tell you otherwise, they’re LYING to you.For the majority of products, especially those only thought about on a semi-regular basis- i.e. travel, paint, etc.- brand loyalty can be thrown completely out the door. For products used on a daily basis- i.e. beer, laundry detergent, etc. – do you really think someone is going to switch brands because they saw your ad or you tried to be their “friend” on Facebook? Um, that would be a no.
Unless you can offer a customer something that his/her brand of choice cannot – significantly less expensive, no carbs, 100% fragrance free – there’s no hope. Even when you can offer something significantly better/cooler/cheaper, there’s still little hope.
Give up now and save your advertising dollars for something else; like when “X” Brand completely f*cks up. Now, that’s when you make your move. That’s your chance to swoop in and rescue the fair maiden in distress. Until then… go spend your money on something else besides “branding”.
