the ups-and-downs and sides-to-sides of the little things that make up life
While I hope not to, I have a feeling I’ll be learning a hard lesson later today about the disposability of material things. For the last hour, I’ve been contemplating “worse case scenarios” and doing a mental inventory of my apartment. So far, I think I’d be okay if “starting over” was necessary. Well, except for Flounder, my “Miami in a Box” and my pictures (there’s a lot from the days before digital cameras that have never been converted).
If you dissect those items, it’s more about the memories attached to them than their material value. Flounder was what, $8? “Miami in a Box” was a homemade gift that cost all of $5 and pictures are about $0.35 each. I have no concern for the expensive suits hanging in the closet or the few thousands of dollars in furniture. Although, I might be slightly bummed about my mattress; I really like my bed.
If you have the disposable income to “start over”, it’s nice to be reminded of what matters most in life – the people and the memories you make, not the material things that surround you. Hence why partying on a Tuesday night was the more viable option than studying for that test you had on Wednesday
