the ups-and-downs and sides-to-sides of the little things that make up life
Lately, several posts have popped up about brands on Twitter and how they should use the service. These posts annoy the hell out of me. The people who are writing them are (a) not directly associated with the big brands that are on Twitter (b) don’t have any big brand clients on Twitter and (c) have not interviewed any of the big brands to glean insights as to how Twitter fits into their marketing strategies.
What’s that saying, you should only write from experience? HELLO, the people writing posts like this and this have no business giving unsolicited advice that they don’t take themselves. In fact, their attempt to bring a brand into the Twitter community not only failed in the eyes of the client but also in the Twitter community where the brand received no traction whatsoever. When the client knows you suck, that’s just bad.
Furthermore, don’t write a post and then don’t take your own advice! There’s another saying for this… practice what you preach.
You shouldn’t give advice on things you haven’t experienced. So, how about you stick to what you know and let the brands that are actually on Twitter, like Zappos, @Starbucks, @LuxorLV or Pandora_Radio dole out advice about using Twitter from a brand perspective. I have a feeling they might know a little bit better than you, who DOES NOT have a brand on Twitter.
