Albert Einstein said, “the only source of knowledge is experience.” With that in mind, as part of my adventure, 1 Year, 10 Projects, 100 Discoveries, ten of the discoveries are about experiences I’ve always wanted to have. This was an experience I started lusting for about ten hours before it happened. I’m a big fan of Alice and Wonderland; the original, not the Johnny Depp remake Naturally, as soon as a special friend told me about this NYC haven, I was obsessed and had to have breakfast at Alice’s Tea Cup. Thankfully, the person I was meeting for breakfast the next day was happy to indulge!
While the chocolate, carmel salted scone was one of the best scones I’ve ever had, breakfast and drinks the previous night reminded me of one of my favorite lessons – it’s not where you are, but WHO you are with that matters. While not surprising, it never ceases to amaze me how the energy of a place transforms based on who you’re with.
The previous night, I had visited the Brandy Library. While it was one experience I had lusted after, my favorite moments of the night happened at The Patriot, a true dive bar. My first shot of Tequila Avion, getting to choose songs from the jukebox and playing old arcade games is much more my speed. And the company? Well, there are no words that could do him justice.
The same could be said for my experience at Alice’s Tea Cup. While cute, if I was the owner, I would have done so much more theming! Nevertheless, it was one Valentine’s Day breakfast that I will never forget. Special thanks to my breakfast companion who indulged my childish exuberance over this hidden gem.
